Fine Vintage Floral Door Hanging On Cream Cotton

A gorgeous doorway hanging decorated in a highly unusual floral design, suggesting European influence, possibly a specially commissioned piece. It is beautifully hand-embroidered using silk in a complimentary mix of soft pastel and vibrant shades, on cream cotton. It would have taken many weeks, if not months of careful work, to create a piece of this size and quality. It is finished with a ‘tunnel top, for use with a curtain pole, and a lower pleated valance. The embroidery is in perfect condition but there is some staining on the background cotton. Gujarat, c1920s.
