Vintage Kantha Textile With Bodhi Leaves And Red Border

Vintage Kantha with fine quilting with tiny stitches, decorated with silk tapestry stitch depicting a central mandala surrounded by birds, leaves and and tree of life motifs.  The heart shaped leaves are from the Bodhi tree and sacred to  Buddhists and Hindus, as it was under a Bodhi tree that Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment. The kantha is finished with a wide soft red and pink jacquard border. Very good condition with a few stains. These old kantha pieces are difficult to find especially in good condition. Bengal, c1950.
